Investments do rise and do fall in value and we strongly advise that professional advice is taken before investing your money

Selecting a Financial Advisor...

I was asked just the other day how I would go about finding a Financial Adviser if I didn’t know where to start and naturally, I said… ‘look no further as I am the Best Adviser in Ascot!’

But seriously, the question did get me thinking and my advice would be to select the adviser who can offer you the best value for your needs.

For example, a younger adviser may be suitably positioned to advise on regular contributions for accumulation strategies but, due to a lack of ‘real world’ experience outside of the text books, they may not be as equipped to help with the de-accumulation of wealth to say support a lifestyle or pass monies to the next generation.

A useful analogy which comes to mind is if I had to cross enemy lines would I go with the young officer who has read all about it or would I go with the war torn foot soldier who has survived real battles?
So, here are my top 10 key points for selecting a Financial Adviser for managing your financial future;
  1. Do they understand me and what I want from my life? Do they take the time to really listen and get to know my own unique situation?
  2. Are they honest...Is there a hidden agenda for them or their company, is it just a job and I am merely a ‘sale’ to help meet their target?
  3. Do they have the knowledge to advise me and ultimately make me more successful in my financial journey?
  4. Are their charges good value for my situation?
  5. What is there after service like? Can I contact them easily or will I get frustrated with call back promises?
  6. Are they interested in me or just my money?
  7. Can they successfully communicate with me via a medium that I like in a way that I understand?
  8. Does their proposition make me more financially secure and confident in my finances and my financial future?
  9. Could I introduce this adviser to my friends and be happy to recommend their service?
  10. Can they provide real life client testimonials?
Every battle is won before it has been fought, think about this statement, its worth its weight in gold!
